“The more we let God take us over, the more truly ourselves we become - because He made us. He invented us.
He invented all the different people that you and I were intended to be. . .It is when I turn to Christ,
when I give up myself to His personality, that I first begin to have a real personality of my own.”
― C.S. Lewis
Our self is carnal. It is where my sin is created. I used to have a therapist that would encourage me to be unique and "just be yourself, David." "Don't let anyone tell you who or what to be." Such a recipe for disaster. I fought to be an individual and "be myself", allowing my self to do what he wanted. I only found hurt, addiction, turmoil, and an endless cycle of problems.
I'm learning that the more I give up that self, let that person die daily and give myself more to God, that I do find myself. I find that unique beautiful person that was knit in my mother's womb sooooooooo many years ago. It's the most unique thing ever, like a snow flake and God knows that guy! He knows him so well he knows how many hairs he has on his head. Thank you Jesus for giving us resurrection power over death. Not that we would live eternally as "self" but die and be risen in Jesus. That when we are risen, we are risen like he is and we find our destinies: the very story that God has known we could become in Him all along.
13-16 Oh yes, you shaped me first inside, then out;
you formed me in my mother’s womb.
I thank you, High God—you’re breathtaking!
Body and soul, I am marvelously made!
I worship in adoration—what a creation!
You know me inside and out,
you know every bone in my body;
You know exactly how I was made, bit by bit,
how I was sculpted from nothing into something.
Like an open book, you watched me grow from conception to birth;
all the stages of my life were spread out before you,
The days of my life all prepared
before I’d even lived one day.
